W e l c o m e  t o  Jim Moodie's  w e b  s i t e

Moodie's career highlights.

  • 1993---Moodie's career really took off when he competed in the British Superbike championship for the Norton factory team. Moodie finished second after a season long battle with eventual champion James Whitham, Fast Orange (loctite) Yamaha. Won British 600 Supersport championship.  Won TT in 600 and 400 Supersport classes with a 400 lap record that still stands.  Won North West 600 and 400.

  • 1994----British Superbike championships, rode for Loctite Yamaha. Finished second yet again to close friend Ian Simpson who rode for Norton, the team Moodie rode for the year before.  Double TT winner, 400 and Single, with single lap record that still stands.

  • 1995---Rode the RC45 for Med Racing. The RC45, in it's infancy, proved un-competitive, but was famed for the flash of flames from the exhaust. Rode for Yamaha France in the Bol d Dor. Rode for Castrol Honda, RC45, had a big crash, resulting in broken wrists.

  • 1996----Rode in British Superbikes for Duckhams Ducati team. The bikes were visibly slow and Jim pulled the pin after the Knockhill round. Moodie saw the potential in the GSXR, joining Paul Denning and the fledgling Suzuki Superbike team. Also rode a production Suzuki and won the Production championship, the forerunner to the superstock series. Won the single cylinder TT race.

  • 1997---Continued with Suzuki in Superbike championship, finishing sixth. Also rode and developed the Suzuki 600, the small Suzuki had real potential but the Avon tyres were by now being outgunned by the Dunlop's.  Rode again in Production championship, finishing second. Three championships in the one year....never again said Moodie, it was hard.

  • 1998----Left high and dry, but gave Honda their 100th TT victory. First 120 mph lap of the island using road production tyres. Finished the second half of the season on the Motorcycle City 600 showing he had lost none of his will to win, and win he did.

  • 1999----Factory Castrol Honda rider finishing third in the championship. Eventually developing the new CBR 600 into regular race winner. Won the 600 TT,  but used a fellow Scots riders (Ian Campbell) G Ten Kate tuned engine.....The CBR, by now handling well, was transformed. Smashed the outright TT lap record on the RC45....FROM A STANDING START. Went out of the race with tyre trouble on the second lap, what could have been!

  • 2000----Probably the most controversial season of any british rider in recent history. Started the season well, again on the Castrol Honda CBR. Went to the TT and was sensationally sacked by the Honda after refusing to ride the Fireblade. What happened next was almost unheard of, but in Moodie's case, it wasn't surprising. Moodie joined the amazingly successful V&M team and dually won the 600 championship on their Yamaha. If ever there was a championship that Moodie wanted to win, this was the one. Add to that, the great performance at the Brands round of the WSS championships, finishing fourth after leading for most of the race. It could have been so much better.

  • 2001----An end of  2000 season crash while riding a Ducati in the Spanish championships put paid to the 2001 season. Seven leg operations and a Helicopter later and we're at 2002. The rest is still to come

  • 2002----Moodie, on the V&M Yamaha comes back from injury and wins silverstone opener, his first competitive race in over a year. Jim Moodie's Junior TT victory takes his tally to 8 TT wins. Jim Moodie's F1 TT race time on the V&M Yamaha is 10 seconds faster than DJ done on the same bike at the previous TT.

  • 2003----Moodie signs for Valmoto and Triumph to ride and develop  the new Daytona 600 along side Craig Jones. Jim Moodie wins the team award at the Isle of Man with Bruce Anstey and John McGuinness. Moodie decides to finish competing at the TT after being involved in the tragic accident that took the life of good friend David Jefferies.

  • 2004----Moodie picks up a double pre-season Injury and is forced to abandon season plans. Moodie undergoes major leg surgery.
